Our Story

Anchor 1

Formally known as the IGA, Lee’s Market is a family owned grocery store in Fort Langley, BC, Canada. The Lee family bought the store in 1975 and have been serving the community ever since. The market has gone through several name changes over the decades, including Tommy’s Market, Lucky Dollar, Link’s Hardware and IGA, and the Fort Supply Company. The Fort Supply Co. was the official name in 1975 when the Lee family became the new (and present) owners.

For the Lee family it was a long road, or rather, it was a long ocean to travel before finally finding their home in this community. Like their father who had made his way to Fiji from China during the 1940’s, to find a better home and better life to make for his wife and future children; so would Johnny, the oldest son, make his way from Fiji to Canada to find a better home and better life for his brothers, sister and mother.

By 1972 the remaining family members had managed to immigrate to Canada and after a few years and various jobs, they found a place for the family to start a business, to thrive and to grow. Although the family business has expanded to encompass the Walnut Grove and Langley City IGA Market Place franchises; Peter, Robert, Margaret, Chang, Lum, Linda, Judy and Charlie and all the familiar faces (and new ones, too!) we have seen for years working at the IGA in Fort Langley are a welcoming place in the community. Charlie has since gone to Walnut Grove. His father, Johnny is still fondly remembered as the happy-go-lucky P.R. guy of the Lee family.

A big thanks to all of you at the IGA for 35 years of sharing the wonderful experiences of being a part of this village community.

Lee’s Market supports its surrounding communities by offering many fresh and local products throughout the entire store. Promoting and supporting local is a huge part of what Lee’s stands for.

Gotta Love Local

Here at Lee’s Market we are firm believers in supporting local businesses.

When building the concept of what “Lee’s Market” means to us as a family, we wanted to create a home away from home for our friends within the community and visitors from around the world to have the best shopping experience. We are passionate about making healthy living and clean eating easier for the community. Our number one goal is to provide our customers with the accessibility to great quality food that you can feel good about feeding to your families. We love supporting local for reasons of promoting biodiversity and sustainability, but it makes it easier to do so considering locally produced food always tastes amazing! There is nothing more comforting than knowing exactly where your food is coming from and knowing that there was just as much love put into creating the food as you would in your own homes. We are proud to provide small local businesses with an outlet to get their incredible products into the your grocery baskets. Over time, we have built relationships with like-minded food lovers from as close as here in Fort Langley to Vancouver Island to Kelowna.

We do our best to source our produce, groceries, and meats from local farms. Some of our best products to mention are locally grown corn on the cob, broccoli, and pumpkins from our neighbours at Aldor Acres Farm in Fort Langley, organic meats including bison from Legends Haul in Coquitlam, organic chicken from Rossdown Farm and Natural Foods, locally made Simon's Pies from Richmond, holiday turkeys from JD Farms in Langley, hand-made sausages from Stapleton Sausages, sweet and salty popcorn from True North Kettle Corn in Chilliwack, fresh microgreens from Black Table Farm, juicy berries from Driediger Farms in Langley, and homestyle soups from Liquids and Solids in Vancouver.

In our Mavis Avenue Café, you’ll find many fresh baked goods and deli items. Some of our favourite products produced by local businesses that provide to our café includes a raclette from Little Qualicum Cheeseworks, creamy goat cheese chevre from The Farm House Natural Cheeses in Abbotsford, handcrafted gluten free macarons from Kitchening and Co. in Fort Langley, deep roasted coffee beans from Pioneer Coffee in Kelowna, sweet gluten free cupcakes from Pikanik in White Rock, the best bacon you’ll ever eat from Bonetti Meats, gluten free baked breads from Zena’s Gluten Free Bakery in Maple Ridge, tasty garlic flatbread from Saman Bakery Ltd in North Vancouver, “sweetheart” cranberry bread from A Bread Affair in Langley, agave sweetened jams from Eat It Up Organics in Surrey, gluten free nanaimo bars from Wendels in Fort Langley, hot and hearty soups for lunch from Liquids and Solids in Vancouver, savoury selection of grilled paninis, delicious espresso from Republica Coffee Roasters from Fort Langley, and ready to bake frozen pies from Krause Berry Farms in Langley.

We believe in these products and we believe in the people who produce them. Keeping it closer to home is best and we are excited to share our love for supporting local businesses with you. Nothing makes us happier than to be bringing quality food to your tables for you and your families to enjoy.
